Christina Engen, Ph.D., ABPP

Christina Engen, Ph.D., ABPP has been practicing with Behavioral Consultants, Inc. (BCI) and the Wisconsin Forensic Unit (WFU) since 2011. She specializes in the following types of forensic examination:

  • Competency to proceed – adults and juveniles

  • Criminal responsibility – adults and juveniles

  • Risk assessment, including conditional release, Chapter 980 (i.e., sexually violent person), and arson

  • Sentencing/disposition

 

Prior to working with BCI, Dr. Engen trained for three years at Mendota Mental Health Institute on civil, forensic, and correctional units, with both adolescents and adults. She completed her postdoctoral forensic psychology fellowship with BCI and WFU, where she received advanced training in a wide variety of forensic mental health evaluations of adults and juveniles. For a time, she also treated defendants to competency through the Outpatient Competency Restoration Program. In addition to clinical training, she participated in the forensic psychiatry fellowship seminars of the Medical College of Wisconsin.

 

In 2017, Dr. Engen became board certified in the specialty area of forensic psychology by the American Board of Forensic Psychology. Board certification in forensic psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) is one of only two post-doctoral specialty certifications recognized in the American Psychological Association Directory.  ABPP has a rigorous standard for credential and practice sample review, which culminates with a three-hour oral examination by three ABFP board-certified forensic psychologists in two primary areas of forensic practice as exemplified by the practice samples.  She is one of 12 psychologists statewide, and one of 316 psychologists nationally to hold this distinction.

 

In 2019, Dr. Engen became Clinical Director of the Jail Based Competency Restoration Program (JBCR).
