Steven W. Steinert, Ph.D.

Dr. Steven W. Steinert has experience conducting psychological evaluations regarding competency to stand trial (adult & juvenile), criminal responsibility, conditional release, and other psycho-legal questions relevant to court proceedings. He has routinely qualified as an expert witness, and his evaluation reports have been accepted in multiple jurisdictions.

 

Dr Steinert’s educational accomplishments include the following:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) – (2014) UW-Oshkosh – Major: Psychology, Minor: Law

  • Master of Science (M.S.) – (2016) UW-Oshkosh – Experimental Psychology

  • Master of Science (M.S.) – (2019) Eastern Michigan University – Clinical Psychology

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) – (2022) Eastern Michigan University – Clinical Psychology

 

Dr. Steinert has received extensive training and supervision in the area of forensic evaluation. He completed a one-year, full residency predoctoral internship at the Department of State Hospitals-Atascadero in Atascadero, California where he received foundational training in forensic psychology. After obtaining his Ph.D., he pursued advanced and specialized training in a range of forensic evaluations within a one-year, full-time postdoctoral fellowship position in forensic psychology through Behavioral Consultants Inc. (BCI) and the Wisconsin Forensic Unit (WFU). He met all qualifications for and was granted licensure as a clinical psychologist in the State of Wisconsin in 2023. Dr. Steinert has been practicing with BCI and the WFU on a fulltime basis since September 2023.

 

Dr. Steinert’s training and expertise are founded in evidence-based practices, and he is committed to empirically scrutinized methodology. Throughout the course of his training, he taught several undergraduate university courses related to forensic psychology and he supervised Ph.D. clinical trainees. In addition, he has conducted research and published in peer reviewed academic journals on a variety of forensically focused topics including personality assessment, use of the MMPI-3 in forensic contexts, response style and malingering, psychopathy, and false memories in legal contexts. He has been invited to present his research at a number of scientific conferences including (but not limited to) the American Psychological Association, the American Psychology-Law Society, and the Society for Personality Assessment. Dr. Steinert adheres to the highest ethical standards and regularly seeks out opportunities for continuing education.
